Winchester TS26-45 Review — Solid Capacity and Fire Protection Without the Premium Price

Who this safe is actually for

The Winchester TS26-45 is the 26-gun, 45-minute-fire safe Tractor Supply sells under SKU 1360473. It is the box a lot of people actually bring home: in stock locally, under $700 at our August 2026 check (Tractor Supply listing), and sized like a residential long-gun safe instead of a locker.

You buy it when the collection has outgrown a cabinet and you do not want to wait on a dealer truck or a $1,100 USA-made Centurion. You do not buy it if you need UL RSC burglary listing, 12-gauge steel, or 80-minute fire. That is a Browning conversation.

The numbers that matter

Tractor Supply’s owner’s manual and Winchester’s matching spec sheet agree on the important bits:

The “45” in TS26-45 is the fire minutes, not a steel grade. Treat it that way.

Fire protection: the actual selling point

Forty-five minutes at 1,400°F is more fire story than most value 24-gun imports, which often stop at 30 minutes. That is why this model shows up in “best cheap full-size safe” conversations. It still is not an 80-minute ThermaBlock box, and a factory fire rating is not the same as watching your house burn on a test curve.

Use it as: better than a hollow cabinet, useful if you live with a real fire risk, not a reason to store the only copy of anything next to solvent. Bolt it down, keep it off a garage exterior wall if you can, and remember that 45 minutes is a lab number.

Security posture: honest value hardware

Eight 1" bolts and a spoke handle are more reassuring than five-bolt budget boxes. The door is a thick composite (about 4.25" with fireboard), which helps the fire claim more than it helps against a cutoff wheel.

This is still an imported Winchester-branded residential safe, not a UL RSC tool-attack listing and not a Payson, Utah Liberty. At 363 lbs it is heavier than a 306 lb 24-gun import and still a two-person theft if it is not anchored.

Fine for:

• Kids, guests, and unauthorized household access
• Opportunistic theft while you are at work
• Fire as a meaningful secondary risk

Not fine for a prepared crew with time and tools. Bolt it down. The kit exists because 363 lbs is a heavy suitcase, not a vault.

Living with a “26-gun” interior

Manufacturer counts assume friendly barrels and almost no glass. Interior depth is 14.7"—a little more than a Liberty Centurion 24’s 13.5", still tight for two rows of scoped ARs.

Plan for:

• 12–16 optics-era long guns if you mix racks and a shelf
• A top shelf that actually earns its keep for ammo cans and documents
• Door organizers (when fitted) for pistols so the fireboard cavity stays for long guns
• The 26-gun claim as a ceiling, not a packing list

Installation is half the product

Tractor Supply’s advantage is you can see it and often take it home instead of waiting on freight. The disadvantage is the same as every 28"-wide, 363 lb safe: measure the path, not just the closet. Minimum doorway on Winchester’s sheet is about 28.5". Stairs, tight turns, and “we’ll just tip it” are how trim gets paid.

Once it is in the room:

1. Remove any shipping base per the manual
2. Anchor to wood or masonry
3. Program the keypad and store the override key off-site
4. Load heavy items low
5. Change the factory code before you photograph the new safe for the internet

Electronic locks fail like flashlights. Batteries on a calendar.

• vs Liberty Centurion 24: Winchester usually wins on price, fire minutes (45 vs 40), bolt count, and being in a Tractor Supply aisle. Centurion 24 wins on USA build, Solid State bars, and Liberty’s dealer/warranty ecosystem. Interior depth is similar; neither is a deep optics cave.
• vs Browning Sporter SP23: not the same sport. Browning brings 12-gauge, UL RSC, and 80/95-minute fire. You pay for it.

$699.99 is the Tractor Supply number we saw. Street prices wander with rebates. Confirm the model stamp TS26-45 and SKU 1360473—Winchester’s TSC line has other sizes with different fire minutes.

Warranty is a limited lifetime on the body with shorter coverage on the lock and boltwork. Read the card in the box, not the aisle sign.
